The United Arab Emirates women’s cricket team has earned ICC ODI status for the 2015-29 cycle. This good news came in the month of Poush, while the United States was feeling completely hopeless. A total of 16 teams now have ODI status from the ICC, and the UAE team has taken the place of the United States. By replacing the Americans, the UAE women have secured their spot on the ICC’s list of associate countries.

The ICC has given good news to the UAE based on its strong performance. The cricket governing body shared this update in a statement released on Friday. According to the ICC, five associate countries have been granted ODI status in women’s cricket: Thailand, Scotland, Papua New Guinea, Netherlands, and the United Arab Emirates. The UAE is now the 16th team to gain this status after performing well in T20Is.

The ICC’s statement mentioned that Thailand (11th) and Scotland (12th) kept their ODI status by qualifying for the ICC Women’s World Cup. Papua New Guinea (13th) and the Netherlands (15th) earned ODI status through their T20 rankings. The UAE is next in the updated women’s T20 rankings, which helped them gain ODI status. Typically, to earn ODI status, a team must play at least eight matches in the format over a three-to-four-year period and improve its rankings.

The top two teams from the Women’s World Cup qualifiers in Pakistan last month earned a place in the tournament. Hosts Pakistan and Bangladesh made it, but the West Indies did not qualify. Scotland finished fourth out of six teams after beating the West Indies, while Thailand ended last, losing all five of their matches.

Australia remains in the top spot in the women’s T20 rankings with 299 points. The top eight positions stay the same, with England, India, New Zealand, South Africa, West Indies, Sri Lanka, and Pakistan in those places. However, the last two spots in the top 10 have changed. Bangladesh dropped one place to 10th, and Ireland has moved up to replace them.
