Bangladesh women’s team made it to the main round by playing the World Cup qualifiers last April. Nigar Sultana Jyoti’s team went to the World Cup as a dramatic 1-ball. After returning home after resting for a few days, the Tigress women camped in the mountains and seas last month.
After a long time, captain Jyoti has spoken again about securing the World Cup. There was a very complicated equation about securing the World Cup. Talking about that time, Jyoti said that she first heard about securing the World Cup from Pakistan captain Fatima Sana.
That day, the Pakistan captain called the Bangladesh captain before the match ended. Recently, in a podcast, Jyoti said, ‘The thing is, I first received the call from Pakistan captain Fatima Sana. She and Sidra Amin and several other players were there at that time.’
“They called me and said, ‘Yes, you’ve got the World Cup tickets.’ I said, ‘Are you serious?’ ‘Really?’ And they replied, ‘Yes, you’ve made it to the World Cup.’ It was a special moment for me. Because this is the second time we’re going to play the ODI World Cup,” said Jyoti.
The curtain will rise on the 13th edition of the Women’s ODI World Cup in Bengaluru on September 30. Hosts India will take to the field on the opening day. There will be a total of 28 matches in the round-robin format. The top four teams in the points table in the 8-team tournament will make it to the semi-finals.
