Bangladesh won the first of the two-match T20I series against the United Arab Emirates. Liton Das’ team won by 27 runs after scoring 191 runs at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium yesterday (Saturday). He also started his captaincy with a victory. The main credit for this was given to Centurion opener Parvez Hossain Emon.
Parvez Emon made the difference in the first T20I of the series. He played a brilliant innings of 100 runs off 54 balls. Batting first, the visiting Bangladesh scored 191 runs on his bat. In reply, the United Arab Emirates’ innings was restricted to 164 runs.
Emon also won the best player award at the end of the match. Emon, Bangladesh’s fastest and second century scorer in T20Is, said, “This is something special for me. My first international century. Of course, it is something special for me. I just used the wicket and played according to my process. I tried to play according to my plan.”
Although the hosts lost the match, captain Mohammad Wasim kept them in their orbit. He scored 54 runs off 39 balls. Wasim said at the post-match award ceremony, “We wanted to win the match. We lost more wickets in the middle. Asif (Khan) and Rahul (Chopra) played a good innings. We gave away 20-25 runs more. We wanted to restrict them to 150-160 runs. We know the conditions in Sharjah, we will try to turn things around in the next match.”
