Mitchell Owen joins Punjab Kings as replacement for Glenn Maxwell

IPL 2025: Under the captaincy of Shreyas Iyer, the Punjab Kings team is seen playing brilliantly. The team is third in the points table with seven wins and 15 points in 11 matches. After the resumption of IPL, PBKS will play their first match against Rajasthan Royals on 18 May in Jaipur.

Meanwhile, Australian player Mitchell Owen has joined the Punjab team ahead of the upcoming match. Punjab Kings signed Owen for Rs 3 crore after Glenn Maxwell was ruled out of the tournament due to a finger fracture. Maxwell was bought by the franchise for Rs 4.2 crore in the auction. But he could score only 48 runs in 7 matches.

Mitchell Owen left PSL midway

According to reports, Mitchell Owen was set to join PBKS only after playing a full match for Babar Azam-led Peshawar Zalmi in the Pakistan Super League (PSL). However, the 23-year-old left the PSL midway through the season and has moved to India to be a part of PBKS.

Let us tell you, due to cross-border tension between India and Pakistan, IPL and PSL were stopped midway and now both the tournaments are going to resume on May 17.

Australian player Mitchell Owen made a lot of headlines with his brilliant performance in the Big Bash League 2024-25. Owen helped the Hobart Hurricanes win their first BBL title by scoring a century off 39 balls in the final.

Owen scored 108 off 42 balls with the help of 6 fours and 11 sixes to help the Hurricanes chase down 183 with 35 balls to spare. He scored 531 runs in 21 innings of 24 matches in the season. Owen scored 102 runs in seven innings for Peshawar Zalmi in the Pakistan Super League at a strike rate of 192.45 and an average of 14.57.
