Sai Sudarshan has performed brilliantly with the bat in the ongoing IPL season.

Former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif is upset with the selection of Sai Sudharsan instead of Shreyas Iyer for the upcoming five-match Test series against England. He has expressed his displeasure over the decision of the Indian selectors. India’s 18-member squad for the upcoming five-match Test series against England was announced on Saturday, May 24.

Kaif criticized the fact that Sudharsan was selected for a format that is completely different from the white-ball format based on his current IPL form. He also criticized Iyer for not getting many opportunities in Team India in recent times.

Mohammad Kaif said in a video on his YouTube channel that Sai Sudharsan is a great player, no doubt about it. But he was selected in the Test team after a good IPL season (679 runs and counting till May 29). Meanwhile, Iyer has been performing well for such a long time.

He scored almost 550 runs in the 2023 ODI World Cup (530 runs in 11 innings) and the Champions Trophy (243 runs in five innings). He is still performing brilliantly with the bat for Punjab Kings (514 runs). He is also captaining. So, on one hand, you are considering white-ball standards for one player and not for the other.

Iyer last played Test cricket for India last year when England toured India. He was dropped from the squad after two Tests and has failed to find a place in the team since then. Since that time, Iyer has done well in the domestic circuit for Mumbai. He scored 480 runs in seven innings in the 2024-25 edition of the Ranji Trophy.
