One of the reasons for the removal of former Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Farooq Ahmed was the dismissal of former coach Chandika Hathurusingha. This incident, however, did not escape Hathurusingha’s attention. The Sri Lankan coach posted a post on social media regarding Farooq’s departure.
“I usually let my work speak for itself,” Hathuru wrote on LinkedIn. “However, recent developments in Bangladesh cricket have brought me back into the spotlight.”
“According to a report by ESPN Cricinfo, one of the reasons for the BCB president’s removal was the manner in which I was dismissed. The decision was taken without proper consultation with the board. Transparency, process and respect are always important on and off the field,” he added.
When Hathuru was dropped, there was an allegation against him that he physically abused a cricketer in the dressing room. However, the coach has always denied such allegations. Even Nick Pothas, who is in charge of the Bangladesh team’s assistant coach, denied this matter.
Hathuru had earlier told Cricbuzz, ‘The last words of the BCB CEO (Nizamuddin Chowdhury Sujan) were – “You should go. There is no need to tell anyone from the board, do you have a ticket?” This was a warning for me. That’s when I got a little scared. An official at the airport told me, “I’m sorry coach, that you have to go (being emotional)”.’
