Glenn Phillips has left the Gujarat Titans squad mid-season after sustaining a groin injury. The New Zealand all-rounder picked up the injury during the April 6 clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Though he didn’t play a single game in IPL 2025, Phillips parts ways with Gujarat news has sparked concerns over the franchise’s overseas depth and backup options.

Phillips Parts Ways with Gujarat: Groin Injury Rules Glenn Phillips Out of IPL 2025

Phillips Parts Ways with Gujarat after being a key pick for Gujarat Titans at the auction. The 28-year-old was bought at his base price of ₹2 crore following a stellar 2025 Champions Trophy campaign, where New Zealand were runners-up. Known for his electric fielding and dynamic batting, Phillips was expected to bring great value to Shubman Gill’s side.

Phillips’ injury came as a setback for the Titans, who are already without pacer Kagiso Rabada, who returned to South Africa for a personal emergency. With Phillips parting ways with Gujarat, and two foreign players now unavailable, the team is down to five overseas options — Jos Buttler, Sherfane Rutherford, Rashid Khan, Gerald Coetzee, and Karim Janat.

Following media reports, Gujarat Titans issued an official statement: Glenn Phillips has returned to New Zealand following a groin injury he sustained during the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 6. Gujarat Titans wish Glenn a speedy recovery.

There’s been no confirmation yet on whether the team will name a replacement for Phillips. As of now, the franchise remains focused on their next challenge — an away clash against Lucknow Super Giants on April 12.

Despite these setbacks, Gujarat Titans have been in excellent form this season. They currently top the points table with four wins in five matches. Their only defeat came in the season opener against Punjab Kings. Since then, they’ve bounced back with wins over Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Rajasthan Royals. Meanwhile, Phillips parts ways with Gujarat, marking a significant change in their lineup.

Phillips’ exit may not immediately impact the playing XI, but it does shrink Gujarat’s bench strength — something that could be tested as the long season progresses.
