MI New York (MINY) has made key additions to their squad for the upcoming Major League Cricket (MLC) season, headlined by Quinton de Kock and Azmatullah Omarzai. De Kock and Omarzai for MLC is a significant boost for the team, as the South African wicketkeeper-batsman, who retired from international cricket last year, reunites with the MI franchise after four years. De Kock played a crucial role in Mumbai Indians’ IPL triumphs in 2019 and 2020 and is expected to bring his experience to MINY, who finished last in the previous MLC season.
De Kock and Omarzai for MLC Squad Revamp with Big International Names
De Kock and Omarzai for MLC: De Kock will be joined by fellow South African George Linde, who played a key role in MI Cape Town’s SA20 title-winning campaign. Omarzai, Afghanistan’s rising star and recent ODI Player of the Year, also joins the squad, strengthening their all-round options. Another Afghan recruit, Naveen-ul-Haq, moves from Texas Super Kings to add further depth to MINY’s bowling attack.
The team has retained its core players, including Kieron Pollard, Nicholas Pooran, Trent Boult, and Rashid Khan, who will continue to be the backbone of the squad. However, MINY has parted ways with Tim David, Anrich Nortje, Kagiso Rabada, and young talent Dewald Brevis after last season’s poor performance.
MINY has also made domestic reinforcements, signing Indian talents Agni Chopra, Tejinder Dhillon, Sharad Lumba, and Kunwarjeet Singh to boost their batting lineup.
The MLC 2025 season begins on June 12, with the opening games set to be played in California at the iconic Coliseum Stadium, marking the league’s debut on the West Coast.
