The National Sports Council (NSC) has given a council position to former Bangladesh cricket captain Aminul Islam Bulbul, BCB officials told The Daily Star today. This happened after the NSC ended Faruque Ahmed’s membership yesterday. Aminul took one of the empty seats from the NSC.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board will have a meeting today at 4:30 pm with all the directors. In this meeting, Bulbul will be officially chosen as the new BCB president. It is expected to be just a formality because all the directors agree that Bulbul should be the president.

Bulbul, who is Bangladesh’s first Test centurion, said he is willing to take the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) role for a short time. He told The Daily Star that the Sports Council asked him to help, but he needed to check with the ICC where he works. The ICC had no problem with it, so he agreed to come for a short period and then return to the ICC.

Yesterday, the National Sports Council (NSC) removed Faruque Ahmed from his director position at BCB after eight out of nine board members sent a no-confidence letter against him.

Even after this, Faruque said he does not want to step down as president. He said no one has given him a good reason to leave.

Faruque told The Daily Star on May 28, “I’m not thinking about quitting right now. No one has explained why I should. Why should I leave if others are staying? I didn’t take this job by myself, I was chosen. Since I was made president, I have the right to know what I did wrong and why I should resign.”
