The next election of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is scheduled to be held in the first week of October. However, a few days ago, there were rumors that instead of the election, an ad hoc committee could be formed to keep Aminul Islam Bulbul as the president. Following such discussions, the Dhaka Cricket Club Organizers Association, an organization of clubs in Dhaka, protested in Mirpur on August 24.
In such a situation, the BCB has called a board meeting in Sylhet today, Monday. The next meeting of the BCB board of directors will be held at a five-star hotel in Sylhet at 2 pm. The topic of discussion there will be the upcoming BCB elections. It is believed that the roadmap for the elections may come from the meeting.
A director of the BCB board of directors told Dhaka Post that there is a possibility of forming an election commission for the upcoming elections in the meeting. The last BCB election was held on October 6, 2021. The first meeting of the board was held the next day. According to that clause, the current committee will have to organize new elections by October 7, 2025.

According to the constitution, at least 30 days before the election, the Chief Executive Officer, under the direction of the BCB President, will send a notice to the concerned parties regarding the nomination of councilors for the next general meeting. This process will be as per Articles 9.1, 9.2 and 9.3 of the constitution.
According to Article 19 and Chapter 5, the Election Commission formed through the Executive Committee will formulate the rules of the election, announce the schedule, finalize the voters’ list and complete all the formalities.
Former national team captain Tamim Iqbal recently publicly announced that he will participate in the October elections. Meanwhile, it is believed that the current president Aminul Islam will contest for the post of president again. He may enter the board after getting the nomination of the National Sports Council (NSC).
According to the BCB constitution, 12 directors are elected from Dhaka-based clubs (Category-1) through 76 club councilors. From Category-2, where there are representatives of regional and district cricket associations, 10 positions are filled by the votes of councilors from eight divisions and 64 districts. In Category-3, one director is elected under the ‘other representatives’ quota. In addition, two directors are nominated from the National Sports Council (NSC). Thus, a 25-member board of directors is formed. Then the board directors jointly elect the president.
In today’s meeting, the BCB will finalize the event management company for the upcoming BPL. In addition, the BPL team, venue, and time will also be specified. A decision will also be made regarding Julian Wood and psychologist Scott. However, most of the board directors will join via Zoom.
