Like various franchise tournaments, the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) is held regularly. This is one of the most popular franchise tournaments, and Dutch cricketers have also been seen getting a team. However, the team’s head coach Ryan Cook has expressed regret that the Dutch cricketers do not get enough support.
According to the Netherlands coach, despite doing well in the international arena, Dutch cricketers do not get much opportunity in franchise leagues. And so he sees the Bangladesh tour as a big opportunity to prove themselves on the world stage.
Cook said, “I personally am very surprised when franchise leagues come and the Netherlands players do not get much opportunity, even though our results are quite good. So I think it is a great opportunity for our players to showcase their skills on the big stage against Bangladesh. If it opens the door to the BPL, then that is what the boys will do.”

The Netherlands’ international calendar is relatively limited as they are not a full member. They only get to play 12 mandatory matches a year. Outside of that, it is very difficult to get a series against the big teams. The Dutch got this opportunity when Bangladesh’s series against India was postponed. Cook did not want to miss that opportunity.
He said, “We only have 12 mandatory matches a year. That is the reality of partner cricket. So any opportunity to play cricket in another country gives us great experience. We encourage the boys to go to any venue and play franchise cricket. Hopefully, the boys can prove that they are world class and the BPL teams will take them.”
In the series against Bangladesh, the Netherlands cricketers will not only try to win but also prove their worth. The three-match T20 series between the two teams starts today (Saturday). The first T20 will start at 6 pm at the Sylhet International Stadium.
