The group stage of the ongoing Asia Cup will end today (Friday). After that, the last four will start from tomorrow (Saturday) without any break. The four teams of the Super Four have already been confirmed. We had to wait until the Sri Lanka-Afghanistan match to know which two teams from Group ‘B’ will play in the next round. Where the Afghans confirmed their exit by losing.

Along with the departure of the Afghans, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh entered the Super Four from Group ‘B’. The day before, the teams that advanced to the next round from Group ‘A’ were confirmed. However, there was not much competition there. Pakistan, which advanced to the last four after India, suffered a bit against a relatively weak opponent, the United Arab Emirates.

India will play its last match against Oman today. It is needless to say what the result of this match will be unless something very unimaginable happens. Suryakumar Yadav, who won the previous two matches and got 4 points, also has a very high net run rate (4.793). Pakistan has lost only to its arch-rivals in the same group. Salman Ali Agar’s team is in second place with 4 points and a 1.790 net run rate after defeating Oman and the Emirates. Oman has lost both matches and they have no chance, while the Emirates have lost two of their three matches.

Sri Lanka, the runners-up of the last Asia Cup, finished the first phase of Group B unbeaten. They defeated Hong Kong, Bangladesh and Afghanistan in 3 matches respectively. The fate of the entire group was decided on yesterday’s match. Where Rashid Khan’s team, batting first, built a challenging capital of 169 runs for 8 wickets. But with the effective batting of Kusal Mendis, the Sri Lankans secured the victory with 8 balls and 6 wickets in hand. The team at the top of the points table has full 6 points.

Bangladesh, however, had to look to the Sri Lankans to balance the equation today. Their victory was the easiest way for them to reach the Super Four. Despite being behind in net run rate, Bangladesh already earned 4 points by winning two matches. The Afghans have also lost against Liton-Mustafiz before. They went home with just one win in 3 matches and 2 points. Another team in the group, Hong Kong, could not win any of the 3 matches.
