The fourth season of South Africa’s franchise league SA20 will begin on December 26. Prior to that, the tournament’s auction was held on September 9. Pretoria Capitals signed Dewald Brevis for a record price.
Joburg Super Kings and Pearl Royals were the first to compete for Brevis. Before Pretoria Capitals joined the fray, the price had already exceeded 10 million rand. After a three-team battle, Pretoria bought him for 16.5 million rand (about 11.5 crore taka).
Pretoria’s head coach Sourav Ganguly was at the auction for the team. He explained why Brevis was brought into the team at such a high price.

“I never equate performance with money,” Sourav said. “Even if you put aside the R16.5 million, I believe he is a great talent. He plays spin very well, which is very important. He was bought at this price considering everything.”
“Hopefully he will do well. He is a great talent. He has improved a lot in the last year and a half, as we saw against Australia. On that tour, he showed that he is a game-changer. And that is what is needed in T20 cricket. We have Russell, Rutherford, who can do really well and hopefully Brevis will do the same,” he added.
