Sri Lanka all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga missed last month’s home series against Bangladesh due to injury. The 28-year-old leg-spinner was also left out of the T20I series against Zimbabwe starting next week. However, the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) board has named him in the squad for the Asia Cup starting on September 9.
The 16-member squad is led by left-handed batsman Charith Asalanka. The SLC announced the Asia Cup squad this evening. Earlier this morning, the organization announced the squad for the three-match T20 series against Zimbabwe. Dushan Hemant was called up as Hasaranga’s replacement in that squad. Apart from him, Vishen Halambagh, who was in the team for the series starting on September 3, is also not in the Asia Cup squad.

Sri Lanka made a total of four changes to the Asia Cup squad from the Bangladesh series in July, with Hasaranga, who was out of the field due to a hamstring injury, returning. Aviska Fernando, Dinesh Chandimal, Jeffrey Vanderse and Ishan Malinga were dropped from the team for that series. Two batsmen Nuwanidu Fernando and Kamil Mishara and fast bowler Dushmanth Chamira returned to the team.
The 2022 Asia Cup champions will open the tournament against Bangladesh in Abu Dhabi on September 13. Sri Lanka’s next match is against Hong Kong in Dubai on September 15. The Sri Lankans will play their final Group B match against Afghanistan in Abu Dhabi on September 18.
