Rangpur Riders team director Shanian Tanim confirmed the matter. At the jersey unveiling ceremony, he said, “Mickey will not be able to be there directly at the moment as he is in charge of the Derbyshire club in the English County Championship. Therefore, we are appointing Greg Smith as the head coach.”
“Mickey Arthur has complete confidence in Smith. While Greg Smith will manage the team on the field, Mickey Arthur will be in regular contact with the team and will provide strategic guidance,” he added.
Shanian said that Arthur will still have a role even if he is not in the team. “We discussed each player with Mickey when forming the squad, and the team was formed keeping in mind who will do well in Guyana’s conditions.”
