Pohela Boishakh, a widely celebrated festival in Bangladesh, saw a vibrant addition this year as members of the Bangladesh women’s national football team joined the traditional New Year’s rally.
The procession, organized under the supervision of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, welcomed people from all walks of life including the national women’s football team. Captains Afida Khandaker and Shaheda Akter Ripa, along with most players currently training at the BFF camp, took part in the colorful celebration.
Renowned filmmaker and advisor to the Ministry of Culture, Mostafa Sarwar Farooqui, was present and exchanged New Year greetings with the footballers. The Ministry has recently honored the women’s team with the Ekushey Padak for winning the SAFF Championship for the second time in a row. Nine players from the championship-winning squad who received the award are currently in Bhutan.
Coaching staff, officials, and players from the national camp also joined the rally. This marks a historic moment, as it’s the first time in recent memory that a national football team has officially taken part in the New Year celebrations as invited guests of the government.
